Light Rail

For the light rail line, the existing 2.2 km Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel was retrofitted; after the tunnel had reopened for buses in September 2007, it was jointly used by both light rail trains and buses until March 2019, but is now exclusively used by trains.

~81.5 km:
- 18 July 2009: 22.2 km segment from Westlake station to Tukwila International Boulevard station opened.
- 19 Dec 2009: 2.7 km extension to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport opened.
- 19 March 2016: 5 km underground northern extension to University of Washington, with an intermediate station at Capitol Hill opened.
- 24 Sept 2016: 2.5 km elevated southern extension from SeaTac/Airport to Angle Lake opened.
- 02 Oct 2021: 6.9 km mostly underground extension from University of Washington to Northgate opened, featuring two underground stations at U District and Roosevelt; introduction of line numbers and colours.
- 27 Apr 2024: Line 2 introduced on an initial 10.6 km segment of 'East Link' between South Bellevue and Redmond Technology
- 30 Aug 2024: Line 1 Northgate – Lynnwood City Center (13.6 km)
- 10 May 2025: Line 2 Redmond Technology – Downtown Redmond (5.4 km)
- 06 Dec 2025: Line 1 Angle Lake – Federal Way Downtown (12.5 km)
