Kanpur (Cawnpore), in the state of Uttar Pradesh, with some 3 million inhabitants in the metropolitan area, some 400 km southeast of Delhi 2-line metro system, with construction started in 2019 and first elevated section opened in 2021: Line 1 will link IIT Kanpur in the northwest with Naubasta in the south - 23.8 km (15.2 km elevated, 8.6 km underground): 29 Dec 2021: IIT Kanpur – Moti Jheel (8.7 km) Line 2 will run north-south for 8.6 km between Chandra Shekher Azad University and Jaurali.
