Light rail construction started in Sept 2026, with an alignment parallel to the seashore from Karayolari and the city hospital (Sehir Hastanesi) in the west to the airport (Havalimani) in the east, and running underground through the city centre (roughly from Ayasofia to Degirmendere 1).
