Metropolitan Rail Network

- 5 lines radiating from Perth city centre, with through service on Fremantle - Midland branches, and Butler - Mandurah branches; 6th line added in 2022 with the opening of the Airport Line which runs through to Claremont on the Fremantle Line.

- every 15 minutes during daytime service

- 1067 mm - narrow gauge (East Perth - Midland section with 3-rail track 1067/1435 mm; Thornlie branch single-track)

- Subiaco, Elizabeth Quay, Redcliffe and Airport Central stations are underground; Perth Station is underground on the north-south route, but on the surface on the east-west route.

04 Oct 2004: Currambine - Clarkson
07 Aug 2005: Beckenham Junction - Thornlie
15 Oct 2007: Perth - Esplanade (now Elizabeth Quay)

Aubin Grove station added on Mandurah Line
18 Jan 2018: Perth Stadium (special events only) station opened on the site of former Belmont Park station (closed in 2013)

11 Jun 2023: new station Lakelands between Warnbro & Mandurah
02 Apr 2024: Perth Stadium served regularly (previously only during special events)
15 July 2024: Joondalup Line: Butler - Yanchep (14.5 km)

Projects:

- Morley-Ellenbrook Line will be a northeastern branch diverging from the Midland Line at Bayswater, construction started early 2022 [Project Website]
